Be a Hero! - By Tay Kratzer
RESTORING MAIL
Last week I was at a customer site training 8 different administrators for a large organization that has recently obtained GWAVA Reload. One of the administrators was bemoaning that for the last two weeks since they have had Reload installed, no one has asked for her to restore something. She's already played around with Reload and seen how she can restore mail in a matter of two minutes, so she's just itching for someone to call, so she can be the hero. Here's a video demonstrating just how easy it is to use Reload:

Another customer sent me an e-mail with heroic sentiments about Reload. Here is an excerpt from the e-mail:
“Every time I have a customer call whining because they've deleted their email, I love reload. I tell them, boy oh boy, I don't know, I'll do what I can to get your stuff back, but it may take a while. I don't know, I'm not sure. I'll see what I can do. It's really hard. Then, when I have it back in 10 or 15 minutes, I'm a hero! It's great! It's like the housewife making rice krispy treats.â€
If you don't have Reload, it might be hard to believe that you can actually restore items within a matter of a couple of minutes, but it really is true! Furthermore, the items are restored in their native format, not as XML or SMTP formatted content. So calendar items for example, come back as calendar items. You may choose to restore items for your users (so your can keep your secrets on how easy it is), or you can allow users to restore their own items.
RESTORING OTHER MAILBOX CONTENT
Two months ago I was at another customer site which has had Reload for quite a while. Their Reload server holds eleven post offices and three domains. The administrator was bragging about how they had USED RELOAD TWENTY TIMES IN THE LAST WEEK. Huh! “Why so much?†I asked. Well there is a variety of reasons, but something that has recently added a great deal of value to their Reload solution is handheld devices. The users in this organization have BlackBerries and other devices serviced by their GMS server. However, through the magic of synchronization users can easily whack content in their GroupWise address books with their wireless devices. No problem, you can easily restore address book items with Reload, and once again, the items are restored in their native format into the GroupWise address book.
DISASTER RECOVERY
Gratefully, Disaster Recovery stories with Reload are much harder for me to come by. In fact, a lot of customers end up buying Reload after a disaster they recently had. GWAVA's Marketing VP, Richard Bliss, has been rattling my cage for months looking for a good disaster recovery story. I always have to explain that although disaster recovery works in Reload (and well), it's not what people use Reload for day-to-day. Just two weeks after my most recent conversation with Richard Bliss, we had our big story. And this time, the customer was so ecstatic with Reload that they were perfectly willing for us to publish the story right away. SLEEP
I guess a lot of people have been missing sleep because of their backup and disaster recovery solution. Here are some actual customer quotes, taken from the popular GroupWise list server NGWList.
Customer Quote # 1:
For what it's worth, we have struggled for a long while trying to create a backup environment for GroupWise that allowed us to sleep at night without worry. We have tried several approaches including RAID arrays, drive mirroring, SANs and "snapshots", etc. We have decided that the best option for GroupWise in our environment is Reload. It does just about everything we want it to do and does it the way we want it to do it.
Customer Quote # 2:
Reload has given me the first backup I have confidence in since I started using GroupWise ten years ago. And, thanks to the great Reload support people, even a Linux dummy like me has the program running exceedingly smoothly.
Customer Quote # 3:
Just my $0.02 but we have just switched to Reload from GWAVA and it uses dbcopy to do a backup to a SUSE linux box. It works great and you can even load your last backup live if a disaster occurs. And no I do not work for them :) I am just greatly impressed by the quality and ease of use of their product. http://gwava.com
Customer Quote # 4:
By the by, those of you NOT using Reload should give it a serious look.
This is the best backup/DR solution I've ever seen for a GW
environment. It's a breeze to setup and works super fast (2.0 was
displayed at GWAVACon and it's supposed to be even faster).
CONCLUSION
Enjoy GWAVA Reload, you'll be a well rested hero!
