Reload Disk Space Sizing

Probably the #1 question when people consider what they need to do

to implement a Reload server is, "How much disk space do I need?"

There are simple forumlas to use and more complex ones.

Here's the simple formula 2.5 Times the size of the post office for every week you want to keep on the Reload server.

So if you have a 100 Gigabyte post office, and you want to keep around two weeks of backups, then you generally want about 500 Gigabytes of space on the Reload server. However, there are some other things to consider, which is why I encourage you to read on.

Let me try and explain how the disk space is used first, then we'll work on formulas.

Reload Consultant's Checklist

Reload is really simple to set up. A lot of customers just use the wizard, do some backups, restore some e-mail and they walk away from the Reload server feeling as though they are about two inches off the floor.

There is so much more that you can do with Reload though with a little bit more effort.

If you are a consultant, or new to Reload, here is a high-level list of things you should consider doing when implementing your Reload server:

If you do not have a consultant you are welcome to contact your GWAVA Salesperson for a quote for off-site (remote access) consulting with me (Tay Kratzer) the developer of Reload.

Here's a list I am building (work in progress) for consultants who are implementing Reload. This list will grow over time, and is somewhat in chronological order.

Implementing Reload for off-site disaster recovery

I've worked with two customers as of late in conjunction with the customers
implementing Remote Reload profiles. I also was training a GWAVA reseller on
the East coast of the U.S. and was explaining just how he should implement
Reload for maximum gain for disaster recovery purposes for a large bank
implementation.

First off, an explanation of this concept. Disasters can be of two different
kinds. There are server disasters, and site disasters.

[ SERVER DISASTERS ]
Server disasters are more common and they can include things such as hardware

Striving for Superior Channel/Vendor Relations

Cleve's picture

Since the beginning of time as we know it, (ie. the invention of software) there has been a great battle called "Competing With The Channel."

The Vendor/Channel relationship seems to logically be a benefit for both the Vendor and the Channel patner. A "Win-Win" as scholars would call it.

HOWEVER, as those who have been involved in Vendor-Channel relations, you know that logical doesn't always pan out. Often times it seems that the channel is competing with the vendor for deals.

Let me take a look at the issue from both the Channels side and the Vendors side. I'll discuss some of the Good, the Bad and a little of the Ugly from both sides. Perhaps giving some insight that may reduce the "channel conflict."

GWAVA announces the launch of Reveal v1.5

One of GWAVA's coolest and most powerful tools for GroupWise administrators just got better.

Reveal v1.5 now takes email oversight and content inspection a step further. A new Rights Management tool has now been introduced. This enhancement to the already powerful GroupWise auditing application allows the Admistrator to delegate which users (HR/Legal for example) can use Reveal, which mailboxes they can access and for a specified time period.

One of the obstacles for organizations deploying a solution as powerful as Reveal is controlling access to key accounts and limiting temporary auditor access. Now with this feature, you can limit access to executive mailboxes, limit access to specific groups of users and offer temporary access to external auditors. Combined with GWAVA Redline's tight integration, every Reveal end user will know exactly who has used it and who's email they have been inspecting.
