In early June, Tay Kratzer, lead developer of GWAVA Reload, visited several clients in four Canadian cities: Montreal, Quebec City, Ottawa and Toronto.

After showing Tay the sights in Montreal we visited major local accounts, showing off Reload. It quickly became apparent that Reload's prime function - quick restore - was being eclipsed in importance by its "other" function, disaster recovery. The ability of Reload to run a GroupWise Post Office Agent against the backup set also gives it the ability to serve as a substitute post office when the main one becomes unavailable for any reason.

Our focus on Reload now is disaster recovery. Reload brings a spare tire to GroupWise for everybody, greatly minimizing downtime - sometimes to a matter of mere minutes! Reload is very flexible and scalable giving you many backup and restore scenarios which will be covered in an upcoming article on GWAVA Nation. Reload really does give you GroupWise peace of mind.

In Quebec City, Tay joined Mike Silverman and Willem Bagchus at a Novell event where over 20 major Government clients attended. Also in attendance were Phil Karren, Ron Gardiner, Michel Bluteau and Scott Flinders from Novell.

Everybody said the same thing about restoring deleted mail the "old way" - it takes too long so we discourage it. The speed record holder we found could restore a 10GB post office in 2 hours. That's fast. When we showed them the Reload procedure that took a little under two minutes with explanations along the way, they were amazed. But the real oohs and aahs came from the idea that the Reload system could serve as a spare tire to their GroupWise post office. Once again, the disaster recovery idea was front and center. We spent 5 minutes with one government buyer who, upon hearing what it could do, wasted no time in ordering it. "Vendu" was his response - the French word for "Sold".

The next day in Ottawa was quite funny actually, as we visited federal governmental installations including some very high-security installations. (I guess it shows you that when you want security, you stick with GroupWise!) The funny part was how tight-lipped they were being. Every question we asked was met with "Can't tell you that!". But they paid close attention to our Reload backup/restore and disaster recovery presentations and were even more intrigued with GWAVA Reveal. This is one set of products that really appeals to people interested in security.

Following that was the final day in Toronto where Tay wowed them again with his Reload presentation to major government agencies.

It was quite an experience having Tay come up and visit us and we certainly can't wait for him to return soon.... and we were sure that he did not leave without enjoying the best of what Montreal has to offer.

Look for new and better features specifically oriented towards disaster recovery in upcoming versions of Reload. Many of these suggestions came from our clients. Tay went home with many great suggestions from clients for Reload.
